A JOURNAL FOR
CREATIVE WORK
The Studio Desk's mission is to help creators understand the tools available to them and navigate the AI landscape.
WHY WE’RE HERE
The world is rapidly evolving. Work that used to need a studio, a suite, or a room full of people is now within reach of one person with a laptop and enough stubbornness.
That's the best thing to happen to creative work in a long time, and but it's also made finding the right tools for your workflow more difficult.
Studio Desk is an independent blog about the technology creative people actually use, and about what AI has changed in it. Designers, illustrators, photographers, editors and colorists, motion and 3D artists, musicians and producers.
Some of you are at a desk with something due and a client waiting. Others are making things nobody asked for, on a Tuesday night, because you want to. And none of you should lose an afternoon or put money toward a tool that oversold capabilities or was never going to work.
So we do the unglamorous parts, and you get your afternoon back.
We name the model, the plan tier, the export format, the VRAM floor. We date every price, because creative software repricing never stops. Where a tool is free, we say what free costs you: the watermark, the resolution cap, the terms that let the vendor train on your uploads.
We don't write from a vendor brief, and we don't claim to have tested something we haven't. A place on a list is not for sale. Where we haven't used a tool, we say so, and we work from published pricing, current documentation, and what practitioners report.
